Lesson 1 Day 2 - The Eternal One
Psalm 90:2
God is eternal. God has always been and always will be. Psalm 90:2 and Genesis 21:33 both speak to this fact. God has existed before the world, and God will exist after the world ends.
Dependent on God
If we are to truly understand our right relation to God we must understand our dependence. The songwriter said, "Without God, I can do nothing." We are totally and fully dependent on God for everything.
The last few days we see hurricanes taking aim at our shores. We can't do anything but leave. If we leave one place we find tornadoes in the Midwest and the south. If we move out west, we find earthquakes. And we always have the ever present possibility of thieves and robbers taking from us what we have spent a lifetime working for.
Humility that Comes from Knowledge
We try to send out kids to good schools only to find that drugs are even there. We struggle to make ends meet only to get a disease that is incurable. We have no solid basis on which to stand. All of this reminds us of our place in the world. It is precarious. We may be boss or president, but it could all be over at any time. Yes it is precarious.
The Good News
The good news however is that there was a God who was here before the world. That same God is directing this world to its correct closure. Praise God that God is eternal. I praise God for this because if God has this then I have faith in something that cannot be overturned. I have faith in something stronger. I have faith in that one who was before all of this and will be here after. Today keep in mind that the fact that God is eternal affects God's relationship with humanity and recognize that nothing that came about after God can take God out of God's seat.
