About Sherman Haywood Cox II

Elder Sherman Haywood Cox II is the founder and director of SoulPreaching.Com which is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. He is a native of Huntsville, Alabama. He was ordained to the office of Elder in December, 1992 and has preached in churches of many denominations and ethnic traditions since that time.

Educational Background

He possesses a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a minor in Math and a Master of Science in Computer Science both from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. In 2008 he completed the requirements for a Master of Divinity from Vanderbilt Divinity School with an Emphasis in Homiletics. He also received the Kelly Miller Smith Institute Certificate in Black Church Studies in May 2009. Finally, he was awarded the Florence Conwell Prize for outstanding work in the area of Preaching at Vanderbilt University Divinity School in May 2009. Thus Elder Cox is uniquely qualified to the work of SoulPreaching.Com in that he has postgraduate education in both preaching and computer technology. In addition, Elder Cox believes and teaches the importance of education for those who are called to do the work of God in this contemporary world.

In 2006, Elder Cox felt the call to create the website SoulPreaching.Com which seeks to provide tools for more effective ministry to Preachers. Currently the site and email-resources are accessed by over 10,000 ministers every month.

Elder Cox is known as an effective preacher of the Gospel and teacher of preachers. In addition, Pastor Cox has aided countless other web-ministries to get off the ground as he uses his unique skill set of ministerial education and experience as well as technological experience.

Burden of Elder Cox’s Ministry

Elder Cox’s burden is to empower the universal church of God by emphasizing the Gospel that is needed in these last days of Earth’s history. His favorite text is “Behold what manner of Love the Father has bestowed on us that we might be called the children of God.” 1 John 3:1. In addition eighty five percent of the visitors to SoulPreaching.Com are either Baptist, Pentecostal, or Non-denominational. Thus, this ministry is interdenominational and an independent unaffiliated ministry.

Elder Cox is married to the former Rutesha Olanda Stroman, and they are the proud parents of one son, Sherman III.
